Top Malaysian model Amber Chia's latest home is a three-storey linked house in corner lot. It is one of only six units developed by the UOA Group at Jalan Halimathon in Old Klang Road. The built-up space is 4,300sq ft with six bedrooms. With such a big house, Amber explains that the house is not only for her. She will be living with an elder sister, a younger sister and her niece.
Amber’s house was completed in August last year. The original price was RM1.9mil but she managed to get a discount amounting to some 20%.
According to Amber, she did not need to do much renovation as she felt that most of the things, from the porcelain floor tiles to the walls and doors, were already perfect. The only thing she did was to knock through a wall separating her master bedroom from another bedroom in order to have a large walk-in Maxima wardrobe.
The interior design was done by her good friend, Edwin Thassian of Fix Interior. The style is called modern classic.
Being a top model has its perks. Half-a-million worth of items was all sponsored. The items range from the DSM sofa to the Pensonic flat-screen TV sets and air-conditioners as well as kitchen appliances. There is also a huge poster of Amber Chia that was sponsored by Boldea Creative. According to Amber, she has 18 sponsors in total. From the actual furnishing cost of RM600,000, she only had to spend RM100,000.

A Victorian-themed house in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, is featured in The Star. The owners of the semi-detached house set aside RM500,000 for renovation, furniture and fittings. Out of that amount, some RM250,000 was for the contractor and RM200,000 was spent on the furniture.
An extract from the article: Upon entering the house, all is calm with an aura of luxury enveloping the visitor. Elaborate furnishings matched with prints of European masterpieces on the wall proclaim in no short measure, a Victorian setting in the living room. Natural wood and rust colours, gilt picture frames, golden light from chandeliers and shades of yellow for the walls set the tone. Plush red velvet curtains complete the grand look.

Tired of having to look at bare walls? Coral Nafie from About.com has 11 great tips in her article Add Budget Art to Your Home and Don't Spend a Fortune. Below are some of the tips from the article.
Frame What's Free I get at least 5 calendars from companies at the end of every year. Many of the images presented are beautiful. Other sources of free art are creative menus, pretty party invitations, a puzzle you've put together, a collage of postcards from a trip, a diploma that you're proud of, or a patriotic or decorative flag. Pieces that are just decorative can be put directy into a frame off the shelf. Pieces that are more special should be mounted on acid-free mat board before framing.
Items from Mother Nature You can mount any number of natural items in a standard frame or a shadowbox style. A beautiful arrangement at little or no cost can be made of pressed flowers or leaves, shells you've collected on a trip to the shore, interesting pods and seeds, pine cones, dried flowers, or even a freeze-dried corsage. Mount heavy items to a mat board using hot glue. White glue or a spray adhesive will work for lighter items.
Hang It Up Hang items directly on the wall. Beautiful plates are a natural, either in a vertical arrangement or randomly around a wall. Garage sales and flea markets offer lots of beautiful or interesting options for dishes, tableware, and other household items that can adorn a wall. Other choices might be flags, hats, model airplanes, pages of music, musical instruments, or toys.
Creative Crafts If you do needlework, draw, make model airplanes, or have a collection of small items, they make a wonderful piece of art. Be sure you have the pieces mounted carefully and do not damage them when you frame them. This will provide a great way to display things that mean a lot to you and to show off your talents.
