Amber Chia in her house

Top Malaysian model Amber Chia's latest home is a three-storey linked house in corner lot. It is one of only six units developed by the UOA Group at Jalan Halimathon in Old Klang Road. The built-up space is 4,300sq ft with six bedrooms. With such a big house, Amber explains that the house is not only for her. She will be living with an elder sister, a younger sister and her niece.

Amber’s house was completed in August last year. The original price was RM1.9mil but she managed to get a discount amounting to some 20%.

According to Amber, she did not need to do much renovation as she felt that most of the things, from the porcelain floor tiles to the walls and doors, were already perfect. The only thing she did was to knock through a wall separating her master bedroom from another bedroom in order to have a large walk-in Maxima wardrobe.

The interior design was done by her good friend, Edwin Thassian of Fix Interior. The style is called modern classic.

Being a top model has its perks. Half-a-million worth of items was all sponsored. The items range from the DSM sofa to the Pensonic flat-screen TV sets and air-conditioners as well as kitchen appliances. There is also a huge poster of Amber Chia that was sponsored by Boldea Creative. According to Amber, she has 18 sponsors in total. From the actual furnishing cost of RM600,000, she only had to spend RM100,000.

Living room

A Victorian-themed house in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, is featured in The Star. The owners of the semi-detached house set aside RM500,000 for renovation, furniture and fittings. Out of that amount, some RM250,000 was for the contractor and RM200,000 was spent on the furniture.

An extract from the article:
Upon entering the house, all is calm with an aura of luxury enveloping the visitor. Elaborate furnishings matched with prints of European masterpieces on the wall proclaim in no short measure, a Victorian setting in the living room. Natural wood and rust colours, gilt picture frames, golden light from chandeliers and shades of yellow for the walls set the tone. Plush red velvet curtains complete the grand look.

A Madura bench from Indonesia

CloveTWO today features a home that is filled with loads of interesting ethnic themed items. Below is an extract from the article:
DARK wood, mostly teak, has a place in every room in Gerard Ng's double-storey link house in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Coming into the house, you may be enticed to sit on the Grobok, a teak storage chest turned into a broad bench. It's 100 years old, and it's from Indonesia. You can lift up a hatch in the bench and store things in it. You can also use it as a bed.

Another Grobok has been converted into a coffee table with glass panels. Gerard is the owner of Purser's Choice in Bangsar Village 2 and his house is naturally furnished with décor items from his shop.

"This is a one-theme, resort-style house," he said. "Coming home is like going on a holiday." Indeed. His living room opens out to a lush garden filled with heliconias, jungle ferns and palms. Lotuses grow in water in large earthenware jars. Balinese stone lamps throw light against the wall and strategically placed spotlights offer a different ambience at night.

The bathroom in Kiaraville, Mont Kiara

The Star has featured a unit in Kiaraville condominium, Mont Kiara, Malaysia. This unit is one of the units that belong to property developer Lai Siew Wah, group managing director of Ireka Corp. Below is an extract from the article.

As a relatively high-end condo development, imported marble is used as the flooring material in the foyer as well as the living and dining rooms. Bedrooms have “pre-engineered timber” flooring while the wet and dry kitchens come with homogenous tiles. The bathroom in the main bedroom and the powder room have granite floors while the other bathrooms have homogeneous tiles.

While the main construction features were left intact, Lai wanted a grander ambience for his own units. Thus, he spent “substantial resources” on timber panelling to build an apartment with a “stately feel”.

Bukit Gita Bayu Bungalow

A modern tropical bungalow in Bukit Gita Bayu is featured in The Star. Bukit Gita Bayu is a freehold 120-acre gated community located in Seri Kembangan, Serdang, Selangor. Below is an extract from the article.

THIS modern tropical bungalow is the owner’s third project and he is happy to note that he’s moving away from what he calls the Thai and Balinese trend.

“My taste is changing. That is a good sign. I would not want to duplicate the style or use the same materials,” he says as he sips tea at the dining table while enjoying the green sanctuary behind his house.

“If I repeat a Balinese house, I cannot use high-tech stuff. Now that I am doing a relatively modern house, I can. And there are so many types of materials coming into the market. This is challenging and exciting for me. And as I continue to build houses, I learn more. It is this that I find rewarding.”
