The Star has featured a unit in Kiaraville condominium, Mont Kiara, Malaysia. This unit is one of the units that belong to property developer Lai Siew Wah, group managing director of Ireka Corp. Below is an extract from the article.
As a relatively high-end condo development, imported marble is used as the flooring material in the foyer as well as the living and dining rooms. Bedrooms have “pre-engineered timber” flooring while the wet and dry kitchens come with homogenous tiles. The bathroom in the main bedroom and the powder room have granite floors while the other bathrooms have homogeneous tiles.
While the main construction features were left intact, Lai wanted a grander ambience for his own units. Thus, he spent “substantial resources” on timber panelling to build an apartment with a “stately feel”.

A modern tropical bungalow in Bukit Gita Bayu is featured in The Star. Bukit Gita Bayu is a freehold 120-acre gated community located in Seri Kembangan, Serdang, Selangor. Below is an extract from the article.
THIS modern tropical bungalow is the owner’s third project and he is happy to note that he’s moving away from what he calls the Thai and Balinese trend.
“My taste is changing. That is a good sign. I would not want to duplicate the style or use the same materials,” he says as he sips tea at the dining table while enjoying the green sanctuary behind his house.
“If I repeat a Balinese house, I cannot use high-tech stuff. Now that I am doing a relatively modern house, I can. And there are so many types of materials coming into the market. This is challenging and exciting for me. And as I continue to build houses, I learn more. It is this that I find rewarding.”

Want to decorate your home but got no money? No problem. StyleAtHome.com has come up with 10 tips to decorate on a budget. Check out some of their ideas:
1 Train your eye: Know what great high-end design pieces look like so that you can have them in mind while hunting at discount or big box stores, flea markets or thrift shops.
2 Be patient: Wait for floor sample sales (usually July and/or January) to get good deals and don't feel like you have to race to finish your space. You want to find the right thing at the right price, not just anything at the right price.
3 Paint a piece of furniture (or a few) glossy black. This works on junk shop finds or new pieces with cheesy finishes.
4 Spend some money: All on-the-cheap rooms just look cheap, not chic. Every room needs a few splurges - special pieces that announce their quality. Decide what “splurge” means to you and do it!
5 Just say no to boring mass produced “art”. Instead, get creative with large collages made from wrapping paper, wallpaper scraps or maps. Paint a large canvas with leftover paints. Pop kids art into off-the-shelf frames with mattes. Hang a beautifully patterned fabric from wooden dowels.

Upon receiving the keys to your new property, there will be a joint inspection of the property with the developer's representative. The purpose is to make a checklist of defects that will be rectified by the developer.
An example scenario goes like this:
- Owner is given a piece of paper (the defect checklist) to write down the defects.
- So Owner walks around, looks for defects ("ah...a crack") and jots down on the checklist.
- Owner gives the defect checklist to the representative.
- Owner hurries off to Ikea for shopping!
Sounds simple eh? Now, is this good enough?

Choosing colours for the house and rooms can be tough especially trying to visualise how the room/house will look after it is painted. If you ever faced such a scenario, take a look at BHG’s (Better Homes and Gardens) Color This! tool.
This amazing tool starts off with 3 basic options. Choose to colour a home, colour a room or try a window treatment. BHG's Color This! tool allows one to, and I quote, ...choose paint colors for your interior walls and exterior siding, along with fabric, window treatments, flooring, roof color, trim, and more. Simply choose and apply the colors and materials, then save your rooms to view later, print on a color printer, or e-mail to a friend. Design, plan, or just have fun!
To use Color This!, you will need to take a short while to register with an email address. However, it is really worth it and don't be surprise that you end up spending countless hours creating various colour combinations.
