NST has an article on hardwood timber flooring. Information about timber flooring was obtained from Netwood, a company specialising in timber flooring. Below is an extract from the article. Tan advises against mopping timber floors with lots of water and industrial cleaners as that can dull the finish, damage the wood and leave discoloured residues.
It’s better to wipe away stains immediately with a damp, soft cloth, or use a PH-neutral cleaner if necessary. Such methods are both economical and gentle to the hands and feet, he said.
"Homeowners can be rest assured they needn’t go to great lengths in caring for their hardwood flooring," Tan said.

Choosing colours for the house and rooms can be tough especially trying to visualise how the room/house will look after it is painted. If you ever faced such a scenario, take a look at BHG’s (Better Homes and Gardens) Color This! tool.
This amazing tool starts off with 3 basic options. Choose to colour a home, colour a room or try a window treatment. BHG's Color This! tool allows one to, and I quote, ...choose paint colors for your interior walls and exterior siding, along with fabric, window treatments, flooring, roof color, trim, and more. Simply choose and apply the colors and materials, then save your rooms to view later, print on a color printer, or e-mail to a friend. Design, plan, or just have fun!
To use Color This!, you will need to take a short while to register with an email address. However, it is really worth it and don't be surprise that you end up spending countless hours creating various colour combinations.

There are right ways to do a renovation and there are wrong ways. Below is an actual example of how not to do a renovation.
Recently, I came across a blog about a family who did their renovation with no regards to their neighbours. Quote: ...had unilaterally decided to cover up the open space of a common wall separating the car porches outside his terraced house without any prior consultation, discussion nor have obtain any consent or agreement from the affected party living next to them.
Furthermore, this renovation was done without any approval from Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA).

If you are interested in selecting natural stone for your renovation, read The Star's article entitled What's in a stone. The article provides simple and concise explanations on the different types of stones available in the market. The types of stones explained in the article are:
- Marble

- Limestone
- Travertine
The article starts off with: If natural stone comes with a label, it would read: “I am a natural material. I am an individual unlike any other. Colour and texture variations are inherent and make me beautiful. Imperfections are not defects but part of my charm.
"Take good care of me and I will reward you with a lifetime of beauty.”
