Home & Decor Singapore this September showcases two homes on their website. The first is a pre-war flat with a swish, mid-century decor plus all the conveniences of ultra-modern electronics and gadgetry. Next is a designer pad whose homeowner added contemporary pieces to his collection of modern classic designer furniture for a personalised touch.
Modern classic Extract: As a nod to the pre-war heritage of his walk-up HDB apartment in Tiong Bahru, lawyer Suhaimi Lazim wanted to recreate the look of a trendy pad in the ‘50s and ‘60s. He sourced for round mosaic tiles, terrazzo flooring and even a stone finish for the wall to get just the right appearance.

Designer pad Extract: When Dr. Ong, an avid collector of mid-century designer furniture, ran out of space for his growing collection, he moved to a larger apartment. His new 1,600sqf home – 400sqf larger than his previous abode – is like a gallery of modernists like Charles & Ray Eames and Eero Saarinen. To add a contemporary, local flavour, Dr. Ong infused his modern classic collection with furniture by present-day designers Philippe Starck and Marcel Wanders and artwork by Chinese sculptor Gao Xiao Wu.
